Our Programs & Classes
Students and enthusiasts of martial arts have many reasons for their interest in the martial arts. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self control to their lives. While still others are concerned about safety and self-defence.
Whether you are interested in our programs for mental or physical well being, Watson's Martial Arts Excellence offers a number of programs that will fit your developmental needs and your busy schedule as well.
Chi'ang Shou Fa Kung Fu
Chi'ang Shou Fa Kung Fu is one of many programs offered at Watson's Martial Arts Excellence. Sifu Watson has been instumental in creating a street working Martial art under the umbrella heading of Kung fu.
In Watsons Kung fu and mixed arts the student is taken through his/her paces in a complete system consisting of everything from simple exercises and basic skills like punching and kicking. Sifu's style differs from many other styles in that no stone has been left unturned and all avenues have been travelled.
The syllabus created for advancement and promotion has been handed down to us from our own Grand-master Philip E Mead of Nottingham, England. Sifu Watson will cover literally every angle with his infinite knowledge of the arts who also has a keen eye for detail and dedication. Sifu prides himself on the knowledge that throughout his many years of training and learning he has shared his skills with thousands of martial art instructors of many diferent styles spanning the whole of Europe and sometimes beyond.
Chi'ang Shou Fa is a system that offers more than any other in that it holds the keys to many of the martial art myths and in many cases has dispelled them or indeed proved their worth. An example could be that of "Dim Mak or Dim Yuet" or the death touch and delayed death touch. No we havn't killed anyone to prove a point but, through diligent research and constant cross referencing through history's many text's and manuscripts from a multitude of systems and styles.
Now here's the thing many of the arts we have researched have been created or indeed invented by local hero's or humble tutors and philosophical sages and professors with several degrees of knowledge including that of medicine and healing. Now Chi'ang Shou was conceived and produced by a MADMAN yes, you read right a madman namely "Liang Siew Yun" in 1757.

Jui Jitsu & Judo is one of our favorite programs regularly on offer at Watson's Martial Arts Excellence. Ironically Jui jitsu is the first Martial art that sifu was ever taught. He learned this from his Father James 'Cody' Watson (1940 - 2003). Cody studied Jui jitsu whilst serving in the merchant Navy and at that time it was considered an illegal art.
Many practitioners of Jui jitsu teach only a portion of it and through either ignorance or lazyness or even ego's instructors do not try thinking out of the box.
A t the early age of 4yrs old Sifu was taught by Dad who often recalled the day he taught his young son his first throw and remembered he literally picked up Dad an threw him bodily from one part of the room to another.
To be continued.........

In the early 80's into the 90's Kickboxing became pretty much a household name and buzz word as many Karate and Tae Kwon Do practitioners failed at becoming a Black belt or became dissilusioned with their art that they were driven away from traditional arts by the less regimented and more flexible art/sport Kickboxing. Sifu had in the early 80's created a easy to learn and fun to do Chinese Boxing style named simply Watsons fitness kickboxing (WFK). This became a model to which many others followed some 10 years later by several members of the opposition and indeed students who could not make the required grade within WFK.
Western Boxing
Sifu has always been a Boxer since around the age of 9 or 10 years old when he trained with Boxing coach and pro fighter from Nottingham, England 'Dave Needham', Sifu himself became a fully qualified Western Boxing Coach in 2003 in the Hoover Gym in Cambuslang, Scotland under the auspices of the A.B.A.
The boxing element is evident in Chi'ang shou and Sifu makes no bones about pointing out that boxing plays a major part in his teachings when others will try to hide the fact that they teach a more traditional art. Suffice to say that without the likes of western boxing most punching arts would be obsolete.
Kali - Escrima - Arnis (Stick fighting)
Sifu Watson became an avid practitioner and Instructor in the stickfighting division when introduced by Grand-Master Mead in the early eighties. Sifu went onto become an Instructor with Guros John Harvey and Pat O'malley of the Rapid Arnis Fame.
Sifu was intrigued to find many answers to other arts through the use of Arnis etc.
A skill based art to which your hand to eye co-ordination is sped up and your confidence to fight against an armed opponent increases, a must for others to try.
Mixed Martial Arts & Grappling is one of many programs offered at Watson's Martial Arts Excellence. Contact us to get more information about this and other programs we offer.
